BTEC: Pre-Degree Foundation Diploma in Art and Design

Why study Pre-Degree Foundation Diploma in Art and Design ?

The Foundation Diploma is a great programme to study post A Level or BTEC Diploma if you hope to study art and design at university. It’s a very hands-on course, assessed entirely by coursework with lots of opportunities to try new things, develop your technical skills and discover what inspires you as an artist.

What will I study?

You’ll learn about line, shape, tone, colour, texture and composition and how to use them to communicate and express your ideas. You’ll explore 2D and 3D art forms, including textiles, graphics, digital photography, Adobe Photoshop, illustration, fine art, ceramics, sculpture and jewellery. You’ll also have regular life-drawing classes.

How will I be assessed?

Through practical coursework-based projects and a final major project of your choice. We normally look for five GCSEs at grade C or above and/or two A Levels, AVCE/GNVQ advanced or a Level 3 BTEC Diploma at Merit standard. You’ll also be asked to show us your portfolio of work when you come in for interview.

What are the entry requirements?

The normal entry requirements for the one year Pre-Degree programme is five GCSEs at Grade C of above, and/or two A Levels, AVCE/GNVQ Advanced or a BTEC National Diploma with a Merit profile.
