A Levels: Archaeology
Why study Archaeology?
Archaeology is a great choice if you’re interested in both the arts and sciences. It takes in history, geography, sociology, art, religion, physics, chemistry – but the good news is, you don’t need specialist knowledge in any of them beforehand. It also gives you a lot of flexibility; students go on to do a wide variety of courses at university, including science and arts subjects, as well as archaeology.
What will I study?
You’ll learn about what archaeologists do and why, surveying techniques, ethical issues and how to interpret archaeological data such as assessing the significance of plant and animal remains.
How will I be assessed?
All AS modules are assessed by exam. At A2, you’ll produce a 4000 word personal study; you’ll get lots of support with this.
What Havant adds to this
You’ll have opportunities to visit the British Museum, attend archaeology days at Chichester Cathedral, discover Stonehenge and its landscape and explore Danebury Hill Fort in Hampshire.
