Summer School Success at Havant College
[28 July 2009]
300 students attended Havant College's Summer School between 6-9 July and in just two days 10 art students produced and exhibited their work in the College atrium.
Art teacher, Louise Roulston, said "the students were tasked with a challenging two day project to explore the College through the style and visual influences of the Constructivists (an artistic and architectural movement which started in 1919). In just two days the students produced over 90 pieces of work exploring a wide range of materials, techniques and processes. I was very impressed with their enthusiasm and commitment and look forward to teaching them on their A Level, National Diploma and Pre-Degree art & design courses in September".
One student, who travelled from the Isle of Wight, said "The art summer school was fun and so much better than I expected, it was jam packed with new skills!"
Other students enjoyed a wide range of courses which included sport, dance, drama workshops, guitar lessons, digital photography, first aid, jewellery, modern languages such as Japanese, Spanish and even Latin.
Karen Colley, the College's Admissions Officer, said "It was great to see so many school pupils, who are joining us in September, having fun and participating in all the activities. It gave them the opportunity to meet and work with our teaching staff and make new friends."
