[3 December 2008]
Havant College is proud to announce that it has been declared a 'World School' by the International Baccalaureate Organisation. This means that Havant College will be offering the IB Diploma programme from September 2009.
Following its Authorisation Visit, the IB declared that Havant College has "a caring welcoming atmosphere, with very good science and ICT facilities and well-motivated students". It added that "the College has a thoughtful and dedicated teaching staff".
The IB Diploma programme is a highly respected alternatively to A Levels and warmly welcomed by universities. Students study six academic subjects as well as taking part in other activities which helps every student to develop his or her own talents.
James McInnes (the co-ordinator of the IB programme at Havant College) said that "there has already been tremendous interest in the IB Diploma programme from potential students. At a time when everyone knows that students must study not only Britain, but also other cultures and nationalities as well, we are delighted that we will be offering the IB programme".
David Willets MP has also offered his support to the College in offering the diploma. "I congratulate Havant College on offering the International Baccalaureate. It is an excellent qualification and will broaden the range of options available to college students - in particular to students who don't want to specialize with three specific 'A' levels and who may find the range of the International Baccalaureate suits them better."
