In December, Havant Sixth Form College’s Modern Foreign Languages Department held a German Film Festival. The A Level German students organised the event, inviting students from Springfield Technology College and the City of Portsmouth Girls School.
The students showed two films, held presentations and discussions around the films as well as serving festive German food. It was a great opportunity for all parties concerned to learn, enjoy and achieve.
Our students made the following comments:
“Part of our Research in German A2 is to study a film. “Die Welle “and “Goodbye Lenin” are great films. They help us understand the issues and the emotions associated with German History, the war and the Berlin Wall. I really like History and I found that studying a film related to History is really enjoyable and puts everything in perspective for me.” Dominic Mortimer, A2 German Level student.
“I think it is really good to have secondary school students here, for them to see what we study at A Level, to meet our teacher and experience the classroom; I wish I had had this opportunity when I was at school” Anna Wozniak, A2 Level German student.
“I enjoyed the film because when I checked with the subtitles, I realised that I understood a lot and that made me feel good.” Bonnie Amos, AS Level German student.
