Free Meals Qualifying Criteria

From September 2014 the College will have a duty to provide Free Meals information, subject to meeting set qualifying criteria.


  • Students aged between 16 to 18 on 31 August 2016

  • Students aged 19 to 25 subject to a Learning Difficulty Assessment (LDA) or a Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC)

  • Student/parent in receipt of:

  1. Income Support

  2. Income-based Jobseekers Allowance 

  3. Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

  4. Child Tax Credit (provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit) and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190

  5. The guarantee element of the State Pension Credit

A student is only eligible to receive a free meal when they, or a parent/guardian on their behalf, have made a successful application to the College where they are enroled.

The student or parent/guardian will need to submit an application for Free Meals at enrolment and will need to provide the College evidence of the qualifying criteria listed above.
