An Important Experience

At Havant College we believe enrichment opportunities are an important aspect of your college experience. We want to hear your views so we can respond to your requests.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is running with great success at the College with students working towards their Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. Through fantastic commitment students learn new skills, undertake voluntary work within the community, participate in physical activities and take part in challenging but fun expeditions. Last year students' voluntary work included helping with children, in a riding school, at a Sunday school and working as a hospital volunteer. The students also applied a good mix of skills between them including driving, playing music instruments, football refereeing and gliding! In order to complete the Awards students had to organise and carry out a residential trip. Last year these included a University Summer School, sailing courses and one student even climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Enrichment Courses

We know that your time here at Havant College is not just about studying. We want to give you the opportunity to try new things, learn new skills and enjoy yourself. Twice a year, for 6 weeks, we run a series of enrichment courses open to all students. There are no exams or coursework. They are purely run for students' enjoyment.

Student Playing the Guitar

Young Enterprise

Students enjoying cooking

Could you be the next Alan Sugar? Do you have creative flair? Would you like to develop your selling or financial skills? Do you enjoy working as a team and having fun at the same time? Then this could be the opportunity for you.

Young Enterprise is a two-term programme that involves a team of students setting up and running their own business. Students run a real business and produce, develop and market a product or service. The scheme ends with an optional exam and competition.

Young Enterprise is a nationally recognised programme which is valued by both universities and employers. It is excellent for your CV or personal statement and provides you with a wide range of vital transferable skills whatever career you pursue in the future. The scheme is run by a member of the Careers team in the college with support from experienced voluntary business advisers from Eaton Aerospace and HSBC in the local area.

The 2008/2009 company 'Zenith' were a successful company at the local area competition held at IBM. Zenith managed to win company trophies for the 'best company report' and 'best trade stand' Zenith's Kathleen Tollerfield also scooped 'Young Enterprise Student of the Year Award.' Zenith sold College hooded jumpers and made Valentine's Day special at the College by selling wooden roses.

If you feel like you have what it takes to be part of a successful company then we need you this year!
