An Outstanding Reputation

The Careers Team has an outstanding reputation for the quality of support we offer. every year our students tell us what a difference we have made in helping them decide on, and plan for, whatever they do next.

We believe this is because we are passionate about the advice and guidance we offer and because we put the needs of our students at the centre of all the events and activities we run.

Meet Our Experts

Highly experienced careers staff giving advice

Our own team of very friendly and highly experienced Careers staff are Alan Bullock, Melanie Lycett-King, Trisha Thorn and Linda Taylor, supported by Personal Advisers from Connexions. We offer all of our students expert guidance and support throughout the year, just come and find one of us in the Careers Centre. We can help you to arrange work placements, part-time jobs, voluntary work, visits, trips or enrichment activities, as well as offering both short or in depth careers interviews, to enable you to get the information, insights or experience you need to plan for a successful future.

What We Offer

As well as the one to one advice and guidance that we offer our students, we are proud to be able to provide a welcoming and spacious Careers Centre, in the heart of the College next to the Library. In here you can access our extensive resources and utilise our computer suite to research your future career plans and we are always on hand to help if it gets a little overwhelming. You will also find workshops and careers sessions being run here throughout the year focusing on everything from writing a successful personal statement, to what you can do with your A Level subjects and much much more.

Our Team also plans and organises other events throughout the year, the biggest of which is our Higher Education Fair in September featuring most of the country's leading universities, alongside employers and gap year companies.

Proud Of Our Success

Excellent student success rate

99% of our students are successful in finding a job, university place or gap year opportunity after they leave college. 80% go on to higher education, either directly or after a year or two out, and we have a long tradition of providing expert guidance on university entrance.

We also place a lot of emphasis on helping students who are seeking gap year opportunities or permanent jobs. Our gap year students can be found working or travelling throughout the world and our job-seeking students compete successfully in a very wide range of careers and professions.

Destinations

We find it inspiring to hear about the range of jobs some of our past students have been doing just a few years after leaving us.

See our Destinations page for more information.

Confused? Don't Worry!

When they arrive at college many of our students are uncertain about what they want to do in the future. If you are one of these, don't worry. With our knowledge of the local and national labour market and our links with employers, colleges, universities and gap year providers, we take pride in helping students to choose their next step in an informed way. As long as you make good use of our Careers facilities, then we are confident that we can help you to focus your plans.

Our Support DOESN'T stop when you leave college...

Many students continue using our Careers Centre after they have completed their college studies because they value the helpful, friendly and professional service we offer. Whether it's advice after A Level results, help with job applications or emailing us for assistance with your university application while you're on a gap year anywhere in the world, you can call on us for help.
